My top 3 items from the Information Commissioner’s fireside chat

ICO Fireside Chat 17 October 2017

On Tuesday 17 October I was at IAPP’s ‘fireside chat’ with Elizabeth Denham, the Information Commissioner. The top 3 items for me were:

GDPR certification – details to be published in early 2018, the ICO is leading the work on this in WP29. The Commissioner thought it should be based on Accountability and mentioned the approach taken in Australia, Canada and Hong Kong.

GDPR help for small businesses – the ICO are launching a new help-line and tools for small businesses.  The help-line goes live on 1 November.

Regulatory sandbox – the ICO will be setting up a regulatory sandbox, on similar lines to the one run by the FCA, for organisations to approach the ICO about new ways to process personal data (that is my interpretation of what the sandbox will do).
